Nebraska Medical Marijuana – Nebraska Cannabis Laws Nebraskans will be voting on a medical marijuana initiative this November. Seth Morris from Berry Law …
If it makes it on the ballot, it will pass. Pete Ricketts and the AG will push hard against it but they aren't representative of how the population feels. They have spent the last damn near 5 years complaining about the crime rate being up on the border, but it wouldn't be if it was legal. A legal market means regulation; you know what you are getting. Pushing against this is not a battle they are going to win. Once the first states legalized, it was game over for the people who have a vested interest to keep it illegal. Nebraska is a fairly progressive state for being red, especially in the cities like Lincoln and Omaha. Our governor still is of the mindset that cannabis is a dangerous substance, so that brings some perspective to how it is viewed by our officials…. I think they will be surprised at how strong the support is. The only reason I can see why some one would be holding that stance is that they have some sort of vested interest. I roll my eyes when people say "oh well big pharma doesn't want it legal" ect, but in the case of cannabis there is a vein of truth in it. This is coming from someone who probably wouldn't partake in legalization but am rational enough to see all the people this would help. It is a legitimate medicine for many people. Also, if you look at something like Kratom, the government backed off of it because of how strong the voice was in that community. Cannabis is far safer than Kratom so it sort of defies logic to keep it illegal.
